WITHERSLACK TARN

Tickets: The local club no longer have the lease for this water so we suggest that you enquire at Witherslack Hall School to see if you can get permission to fish this small water.

Directions: Take the A590 Crooklands to Barrow-in-Furness road. If travelling from junction 36 of the M6, proceed past Levens and Whitbarrow Scar on your right. On the 3rd section of dual carriageway after the M6 turn right for Witherslack.

Go across minor crossroads at Derby Arms pub and after about 1½ miles you see Witherslack school entrance. Parking is on right and take path to tarn. Species are roach, perch, pike and eels and best fishing is in Summer and Autumn.

Normally tackled with rod and float methods or pole but because of surrounding trees pole fishing can be awkward. In Summer catching on 'the drop' takes plenty of roach on maggot and caster. Sweet corn, hemp and redworms are also very effective. Ground baiting is not allowed although it is ok to loose feed.

This water is very tranquil and is very under fished.

Note that the water is closed from 15 March until 15 May inclusive.
