SKELSMERGH TARN

Tickets: Available at Skelsmergh Hall Farm

Directions: Take the A6 from Kendal to Shap. Past Morrisons Supermarket on the right and eventually a church on the right with a lane alongside. Proceed past these and take the first turning on the right and go uphill to Skelsmergh Hall Farm.

Wellies are advised as in wet weather the edges of the tarn can be boggy although timber has been put down. Speciment Tench to over 10lbs and Perch well over 2lb are fairly common. there are also Rudd and Pike in this water.

Fishes best to float fishing methods and red maggot is a particularly good bait and big Perch can be taken just below the surface in Summer by loose feeding plenty of maggots. The big Tench are also very partial to red and lob worms plus sweet corn.
