RIVER KENT

Tickets:
Sold by us on behalf of Kent (Westmorland) Angling Assoc. Other
tickets available as listed below. Directions: From
Junction 36 on M6 motorway take the A591 to Kendal. Fishing
available on the river both above and below Kendal.
The river
rises above Kentmere and flows into Morecambe Bay and is generally
a highly productive Salmon and Sea Trout river and 1999 saw
incredible runs of very large Sea Trout well in excess of 10lbs.
Brown
Trout grow to maximum of 7lbs although any fish over 3lbs is very
good one with the average being about 12-14oz. Virtually no one
fishes for the Brown Trout so before June you usually have the
river to yourself. Most of the river bed is limestone and is
virtually all rocky apart from the tidal stretch at Low Levens
which is muddy. The main day and weekly ticket water is
controlled by Kent (Westmorland) Angling Association who covers
most of the river from just south of Burneside to Sedgwick about 4
miles south of Kendal. Ticket prices vary according to the time of
year with the cheaper fishing being prior to 31 May. No day
tickets are available after 31 August. Fishing on the
association water is by fly, spinner or worm only and there are a
couple of short stretches where fishing is restricted to fly only.
All methods work well and probably the fly is best for Brown and
Sea Trout. It is best to contact us at the shop as to what is
working as the river is a spate one and can be in good fishing
order one day and two days later is back at Summer level. If
intending to travel any distance please contact us as invariably
when it rains in York, London or Manchester we are suffering low
water conditions. Day tickets can be obtained for Staveley
Anglers water from the Woof's newsagents in Staveley. There is
good Trout fishing and very good Autumn Salmon fishing and you can
use shrimp on this stretch of water. Tickets are also available
for Burneside Angling Association's water at Burneside from the
Jolly Anglers pub in Burneside. This is only a short stretch but
is productive and some of the best Brown Trout on the river are
found here. All the river from Force Bridge at Sedgwick to below
Low Levens Farm is strictly private but day, week and season
permits can be got from Mrs Parsons at the farm bungalow for the
tidal stretch downstream of the farm. This is predominately Salmon
and Sea Trout water with very few Brown Trout. It fishes best on a
fining spate and if one coincides with a big tide the fishing is
superb to spinners and worms but fly fishing also works.
