GRASMERE
 Tickets:
Sold by us for WADAA. Directions: Grasmere lies along the
A591 Crooklands to Keswick road just after Rydal heading towards
Keswick. It tends to be busy in the area with tourist traffic so
an early start is needed to ensure a parking spot. The lake is
approximately 1 mile long and ½ mile wide and the main species
found are Pike, Perch, Roach and Eels. Usual method for
Roach/Perch is ledgering red maggot although small red worms will
also fish very well. There are a few Brown Trout in the lake but
over the years the population has been reduced with pollution.
Pike can grow to about 30lbs and a 20lb fish is always on the
cards. Dead baiting with Herring, Sprat, Smelt, Rainbow Trout etc
produces well and try taking a rod for the smaller fish and if you
locate them then old jaws should be close buy. Lure fishing is
also very good and allows you to wander the shores with minimum of
tackle. Large copper or silver or copper/silver spoons produce as
do all the usual large plugs. If boat fishing it is possible to
get 10 or more fish in the day particularly in early Summer.
