ESTHWAITE WATER

Tickets: Available from fishery office.

Directions: This fishery is reached from the Hawkshead to Newby Bridge road. Travel on A590 from M6 to Newby Bridge. At Newby Bridge turn right over narrow bridge over River Leven and follow road for about 6 miles until you see the lake on your right. The fishery office is about 400 yards further on your right.

This is highly stocked with Brown and Rainbow Trout from 1.25lbs up to almost 20lbs. The lake is zoned and fly fishing is allowed everywhere and worm, sweetcorn, spinning and plug fishing is allowed in the southern area. The lake holds one of the densest stocks of trout in the country.

Fly fishing is excellent with good top of the water but sinking lines and lures or boobies also fish well.

There is also a huge head of large Pike to 30lb or more and these can be fished for in Winter as can the large shoals of Roach and Rudd.
